Men's Health Month

6/14/2023

Since June is Men’s Health Month and Father’s Day is right around the corner, we’d like to take a moment to highlight the importance of an issue that is often overlooked: men’s health.

Although men suffer from both physical and mental health ailments, they are less likely to schedule regular checkups and seek the help they need. While there’s no absolute answer to why that is, one reason is that men are often taught to suppress their emotions and to be strong and tough. They may feel like they are not supposed to show weakness or vulnerability. Another reason is that men may not know where to get help or they may not think that they can afford it.

That’s where we come in! Ritchie Regional Health Center has a whole team of dedicated professionals who provide a full range of healthcare services. Whether it’s an annual wellness visit, lab work, or a therapy session - our compassionate staff has you covered!

PLUS, we accept most insurance plans (including Medicaid and Medicare) and offer payment plans as well as the Sliding Fee Scale, so you can get the care you need without having to worry about the cost.

To all the men out there: YOUR HEALTH MATTERS! More people care about you than you may realize. Whatever your healthcare needs are, don’t delay, and make an appointment with us today!

To schedule an appointment, call or text (304) 643-4005 or find an RRHC campus near you.

Looking for some helpful tips on staying healthy both physically and mentally? You’ve come to the right place!

Physical Health Tips:
  • Eat a balanced diet. A balanced diet includes plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. It also means you should limit your intake of processed foods, sugary drinks, and unhealthy fats.
  • Get regular exercise. Exercise is important for your physical and mental health. Try to aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise most days of the week!
  • Get enough sleep. Most adults need 7-8 hours of sleep per night. When you don't get enough rest, you raise your chance of getting diseases.
  • Manage stress. Stress can contribute to a number of health problems, including heart disease, high blood pressure, and depression. Find healthy ways to manage stress, such as exercise, relaxation techniques, or spending time with loved ones.
  • See your primary care provider (PCP) for regular checkups. Even if you feel healthy, it is important to see your PCP for regular checkups. Your PCP can screen you for health problems and provide you with preventive care.

Mental Health Tips:
  • Talk to someone you trust. This could be a friend, family member, therapist, or doctor.
  • Don't be afraid to ask for help. There are many people who want to help you.
  • Take care of yourself. This means eating healthy, exercising, and getting enough sleep.
  • Avoid alcohol and drugs. These substances can make your mental health problems worse.
  • Find healthy ways to cope with stress. This could include exercise, relaxation techniques, or spending time with loved ones.

Oh, and don’t forget to wear blue on Friday, June 16 to show solidarity for men’s health! #ShowUsYourBlue #MensHealthMonth #MensHealth
